52 Colombia - Rio Salvajina
The dam, reservoir and hydroelectric project on the Rio Salvajina was built in 1984. Thousands of families were displaced, and the environment scarred and degraded. The army was accused of assasinating local activists in order to force them to leave. The hydroelectric station is operated by the Spanish company, Union Fenosa, which exports the electricity generated to other countries in South America.
